Join the Community CARES Circle in your local city
Part of the NATIONAL CARES MENTORING MOVEMENT, these groups are being formed in every city to help us keep mentors engaged and turn failing schools into top-tier learning environments for our children. Sign up for the ESSENCE CARES newsletter to connect and work with other men and women in your area who are committed to winning social justice for our youngsters who are suffering and losing ground.
Spread The Word
E-mail at least five friends and tell them to join the NCMM and become a mentor (perhaps you can form a mentoring group or tag team). We are especially in need of strong Black men. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of America alone, 12,000 African-American boys wait to be matched with a male mentor.
Get Involved STEP 1
A prospective mentor should first decide about the type of program that best fits his/her schedule and interests. Factors to consider include:
- Type of Program (one-on-one; tag-team; group mentoring; in school, church, or community)
- Gender (males and/or female)
- Age Range and/or Grade
- Days and Time
- Location (near home or work)
- Activities of Interest
STEP 2
LACMM will assist with matching the prospective mentor’s preferences with local mentoring programs.
STEP 3
The mentoring organization contacts the prospective mentor and provides information on getting involved with their program
